Smart Stuff with Twig Walkingstick

From News and Media Relations

"Smart Stuff with Twig Walkingstick" is a weekly science column for kids. It's aimed at about a 4th-grade reading level. "Twig" himself is a bow tie-wearing cartoon walkingstick, a type of insect. He's the voice of the column and appears at the left in the camera-ready version. "Bob the Bug," Twig's pal, is a bald-headed bug of an unidentified type who doesn't say much but appears in the bottom-right corner.

The focus of the column is on science, farming, nature and related topics. What's a skunk cabbage? What's 'mad cow disease'? Why do birds sing? What's ellagic acid? Why should we bother to fix up old barns? What's a "bog-pumper"? And so on. The writer is Kurt Knebusch, (330) 263-3776, knebusch.1@osu.edu.
